
Pediatric Otolaryngology
The Pediatric Otolaryngology Division provides excellent patient care, research and education. Cutting-edge technology is used in both diagnosis and surgical therapy. All aspects of Pediatric Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery are treated within this division including laryngotracheal disorders, voice and language therapy, sinonasal disorders, neck masses, otologic problems, cleft lip and palate and pediatric facial plastic surgery. In the planning stage is a multi-specialty center for voice, language, sinus and airway problems in children.
UM pediatric otolaryngologists use the most sophisticated techniques and technology to provide outstanding patient care for all forms of head and neck surgery for laryngotracheal disorders, sinonasal disorders, neck masses, problems of the ear and hearing, cleft lip and palate and conditions requiring facial plastic surgery.

Leading the forefront of pediatric otolaryngology at the University Of Miami Miller School Of Medicine is Dr. Ramzi T. Younis, Chief of Pediatric Otolaryngology. Before joining the University of Miami team, Dr. Younis was the Chief of Pediatric Otolaryngology at Yale University and thereafter Interim Chairman of the Department of Otolaryngology at the University of Mississippi, Jackson Mississippi. He completed his residency training and medical degree at the American University of Beirut, Beirut, Lebanon and then joined Le Boheur children Hospital in Memphis, TN, where he completed three years of Pediatric Otolaryngology fellowship training. Since then he has been actively involved in delivering care to pediatric patients with ear, nose, throat and airway problems. In addition, he has built a world renowned reputation for his clinical and research work with a primary focus on sinus disease and sinus surgery, airway reconstruction, ear infections and management of snoring and sleep disorder in children.
Additionally, Dr. Younis is internationally recognized for being one of the few surgeons that can perform delicate endoscopic surgeries in the pediatric age group with rare head and neck tumors such as teratoma or juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma. His recent pioneering work has been publicized and acknowledged throughout medical meetings, national and international TV, media and the press. Dr. Younis has published 49 scientific articles, 25 textbook chapters, is the editor of a unique book on Sinus Disease in Children and has been a guest speaker and presenter at a variety of national and international conferences. He has received several awards and recognitions from national and international societies, is a member of the editorial board of a well recognized otolaryngology journal and serves as a reviewer for almost all the peer reviewed journals in the field of otolaryngology.
In conjunction with the services provided by Dr. Younis, the Division of Pediatric Otolaryngology also offers voice and language therapy, outpatient appointments, testing and surgery at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute on the University’s medical campus. Additionally, the Division is currently in the planning stages for a multi-specialty center for voice, language, sinus and airway problems in children.

A tumor on the face of a fetus threatened his life, then Univeristy of Miami doctors, including the Department of Otolaryngology's Dr. Ramzi Younis, made a miracle happen at his birth thanks to the baby's mother's faith and love.
